Cold Front Arrives Tonight 10/05/12

Friday Morning Weather Update
Greg Morgan – Chief Meteorologist

After a cool start to the day and some patchy fog, much more pleasant weather conditions are expected through the afternoon. Highs will reach into the 80’s and 90’s for much of SW Texas. However, a few locations in the northern and eastern Permian Basin will struggle to see highs get out of the 70’s due to a cold front impacting these locations prior to peak heating. Winds will be out of the ESE through much of the day at 5-15mph.

Winds will quickly shift to the NE this evening and increase as the previously mentioned front works its way into the area. Breezy to windy conditions will remain in the offing through tomorrow afternoon. Much cooler air will move into behind the front. Expect overnight lows in the mid 40’s. Rain chances will increase as the front moves through. Expect a chance of light rain showers to persist much of the day on Saturday, into early Sunday. Given the expected cloud cover and rain-cooled air, it appears likely that highs will stall around 50 degrees on Saturday and only make it to the upper 50’s on Sunday. Overnight lows will continue to fall into the 40’s if not the 30’s over the weekend.

Conditions will improve on Monday and continue to improve through the middle of the week. A large storm system will move into the SW United States late next week. The chance of rain looks promising, starting Thursday and continuing into the weekend. However, it’s a bit too early to get overly excited.
