Odessa Crossing Guard Hit by Vehicle, Transported to Hospital 2/27/14

Here is Odessa Police's press release regarding this morning's car/pedestrian incident:
On 2-27-14 at approximately 0800 hours, officers responded to Maple and Tanglewood in reference to a major crash. Investigation revealed that a 2010 Gray Kia Forte, being operated by Debra Ward, 58 years of age, was traveling southbound in the 3900 block of Tanglewood attempting to turn right onto the 4000 block of Maple. An Odessa Police Department crossing guard, identified as Cathy Scott, 61 years of age, was walking southbound on Tanglewood in the crosswalk on the west side of the intersection. Ward failed to yield the right of way to Scott, who was struck by the Kia and transported to Medical Center Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Ward was cited for Failure to Yield Right of Way to a Pedestrian at Crosswalk.
Odessa Police tell CBS 7 a crossing guard was hit by a car this morning at Tanglewood and Maple.
The crossing guard was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the vehicle was cited for failing to yield the right of way.
Odessa Tx. - Odessa Police are responding to a car/pedestrian accident. The incident occurred near the intersection of Maple and Tanglewood.
Witnesses at the scene of the crash say a crossing guard was struck.
