Weather Experts Working to Relay Severe Weather Warnings Better 2/26/14
CBS 7 News
At least 100 weather experts from all over the Permian Basin and parts of New Mexico gather in the Region 18 conference room for the first ever National Weather Service Workshop in Midland. Officials with NWS tell us the goal of the workshop is to more consistently and efficiently relay weather warnings to the public.
The workshop consists of a presentation from Texas Tech researchers on how people have responded to tornado warnings in the past. Next will be a media panel from experts in the basin. After that will be a scenario where people can see exactly how each occupation responds in a severe weather situation. Finally, will be a presentation on social media and how it corresponds to weather warnings and alerts.
Officials with NWS say they hope after today, alerts across the board will be better and more on the same page because of the relationships made today.
