Charges Pending After Fight at Ector Jr. High 02/25/14

Odessa - A video posted online of two Jr. High girls fighting is causing a buzz within the walls of Ector Jr. High school in Odessa. Now an open investigation by the Ector County Independent School District police could end with charges being filed.
Family members of the girl attacked last Thursday are now speaking out, they say this incident was definitely not a fight, but rather an attack, and one that scares the entire family. The video of the two girls speaks for itself, you can see one girl walking down the hall when all of a sudden another girl emerges, grabs her hair and begins to beat her.
The attack continues for almost thirty seconds before the victim is left in the middle of the hall with a busted lip. “The worst thought crossed my mind. I was really expecting to see her a lot worse,” said the victim’s father.
Videos like this have become popular all over social media websites like Vine, Instagram and of course Youtube. The attacker in the video was suspended from school for a couple of days, however police officials within the school district say these videos are considered evidence, and could result in criminal charges.
“For the most part social media has made our job very difficult because of the fact it has given people another tool to use to use in a very negative way. This case is still being investigated and it will be referred to prosecution,” said ECISD Police Chief Mark Rowden.
In the meantime, family members of the victim say they are scared the attacker will target them. As for the father of the victim, he has just one thing to say to his daughter’s attacker. “I want to see that girl repent and see that she is sorry for her actions, I would be willing to drop the charges. But if she continues to bully my daughter or threaten my daughter, I’m willing to take the proper channels and make sure that justice is served,” said the victim’s father.
During the interview with the family, the father of the victim adds that his daughter has not had any kind of incident like this happen before and was very surprised when he got the phone call from the principal. Parents also add that the daughter was not suspended from school and actually attended school the very next day.
