The City of Odessa has purchased a new traffic signal software which will allow engineers to control traffic signals remotely.
Normally when there are issues with traffic lights like when lights get shut off due to power outages, engineers have to go out to the site and make changes manually.
Now, they will be able to troubleshoot remotely.
"It'll be a much quicker response in timing lights, changing lights, doing what needs to be done because it's all remote location instead of sending crews from one location to location," says City PIO Andrea Goodson.
The new software will cost around 150 thousand dollars.
Goodson says the install will be gradual, the main focus will be 42nd Street.
That process will being in the next couple of months, however, there is no official start date yet.
