Andrews to Hold Public Memorial Today for Late Mayor Bob Zap 2/19/14

ANDREWS-Members of the community will gather this afternoon to honor late Mayor Bob Zap.
A public memorial service will be held at 5:00 PM Wednesday, February 19 at the Auditorium at the Andrews High School Performance Center.
Here is an excerpt from the city's web site:
"Bob was born March 17, 1929 in Stickney, IL to Frank and Julia Zap. He met Joyce Rude in their Church youth group and in 1951 they were married. He attended Wheaton College and Western Theological Seminary. Following his graduation, he accepted his first position as pastor of the Reformed Church in Williamson, NY. In 1963, he took a position as pastor of the Reformed Church Mission on the Mescalero Apache Reservation in Mescalero, NM. In 1967 he accepted the position as pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Andrews, Texas where he remained until his retirement in 1994. Bob was elected to the Andrews City Council in 1996 and to the position of Mayor in 2000, he was also serving as Pastor of the First Christian Church of Andrews, both are positions he still held at the time of his passing.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce of Andrews, TX; daughter, Elizabeth Stottlemyre and husband, Danny of Andrews, TX, daughter, Patrice Zap of Kingdom City, MO; son, Stephen Zap and wife, Joanne of Rolla, MO, son, Greg Zap and wife, Susan of Austin, TX; daughter, Sylvia Zap of San Angelo, son, John Zap and wife, Sara of Andrews, TX, daughter, Lisa Zap and her fiancé’ Scott Guy of Big Spring, TX; he is also survived by three grandchildren, John Davis and Katheryn Alchesay Zap of Andrews, TX and Kristen Conrad and husband, Brad of St. Charles, MO and one sister, Violet Fischer of Tucson, AZ.
The family asked that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be made to the Bob Zap Memorial Fund at the National Bank of Andrews. "
