Sophomore first baseman Connor Griffith (Flower Mound, TX/Flower Mound HS/McMurry) of the Sul Ross State University baseball team has received a national honor.
Griffith was named the first baseman on the D3baseball.com Team of the Week. One player was named at each position, and four pitchers were also selected.
Griffith had an outstanding opening seven-game stretch, hitting .543 with 19 hits in 35 at bats. He drove in 14 runs band scored eight times, with six doubles, one triple and a .771 slugging percentage. During the first seven games of the season, the Lobos hit .404 as a team and averaged 11.4 runs per game.
“Connor is a pure hitter, it’s not surprising that he drove in as many runs as he did the last couple of weeks,” said Sul Ross State Head Coach Bobby Mesker. “He’s a good hitter with two strikes, and he hits the ball where it is pitched. That’s what he was recruited for.”
The Lobos will return to action when they visit Texas-Tyler in an American Southwest Conference series this weekend.
