MIDLAND-At least one midland car thief is targeting Honda vehicles. Midland Crime Stoppers says the thief reportedly stole 11 Hondas in Midland last week alone.
It's easy to spot Honda after Honda around the basin and drivers we spoke with were surprised to learn their car might be a target.
Chris Blanc says he and his family always lock their Honda, especially now that he's heard about the thefts.
"Wow that's very surprising,” said Honda Owner Chris Blanc. “We do have quite a rise in population, and I’m sure a lot of people are trying to do things to get what they can’t have on their own and take advantage of the situation."
This is the picture of the suspect believed to be responsible for the whopping 11 thefts. Midland Crime Stoppers has a $1,000 reward out for his arrest. Police say it's important not to be a target.
"My family and I always lock, everywhere I go I make sure the car is locked,” Blanc said. “We always make sure no visible items are in the open."
Just a few blocks away, another Honda sits in a driveway--unlocked.
"Actually you reminded me that my Honda is in front of my house unlocked, it’s the first time I thought of it all day,” Honda Driver Elizabeth Edwards said.
But not for long. “Watch your Hondas, apparently they’re popular.” Edwards said.
Midland Crime Stoppers did not say why this and others may be targeting Hondas.
