Austin-Area Sheriff's Deputy Shoots, Kills Person 2/17/14
BASTROP, Texas — An Austin-area sheriff's deputy has shot and killed a person while responding to a call that two men were fighting over a gun.
The Austin American-Statesman reports Sunday (http://bit.ly/1lWJRW5 ) that a Bastrop County Sheriff's deputy responded to the disturbance call shortly after midnight.
The sheriff's department says in a statement that the deputy fired his weapon, killing one person.
The person's identity has not been released. The deputy has been placed on administrative leave. The Texas Rangers are assisting in the investigation.
Bastrop is a town about 35 miles southeast of Austin.
