MIDLAND-E-cigarettes, also known as vapor pens, have become popular among students as well as adults. And Midland County Sheriff Gary Painter says they’re finding that more minors are using these E-cigarettes to smoke marijuana in while at school.
“Everybody is using them, everybody,” said one MISD student.
“I hear kids talking about it all the time. They’re using it all the time, they’re using it in class, teachers aren’t catching them, because it’s easy to hide, like a pen,” said another MISD student.
Sheriff Painter says the growing trend has become a big issue.
Just a few weeks ago he busted a senior in high school for a DWI, and found an e-cig in his car filled with liquid THC, otherwise known as liquid marijuana.
Getting a hold of a vapor is as easy as a click of a button, as students simply lie about their age and purchase one online.
There are several videos posted online that show how to place marijuana inside of the pens.
Sheriff painter says he will do all he can to put a stop to this growing trend.
“Now that I know E-cigs are being used for illegal activity, yeah, I’m going to check it if it has liquid THC, liquid marijuana in it, I’m going to bust them, put them in jail,” Painter said.
Midland Independent School District’s Police Department says its received a warning a few weeks ago about the trend, and say this is something it will be keeping a close eye on.
