Odessa Police Institute Safe Zones to Crack Down on Traffic Violations 2/14/14
Odessa Police Department
ODESSA - One of the goals of the Odessa Police Department is a motoring public, which is safe, courteous and accident free. In pursuit of this goal, the Department will begin to periodically designate “Safe Zones” throughout the city.
These “Safe Zones” are areas in which traffic enforcement will be increased in an effort to gain traffic law compliance. “Safe Zones” will be announced the week prior to enforcement action being taken. Expect to see officers of the Odessa Police Department working these areas singly or in groups in an effort to gain compliance through education and enforcement.
Officers working “Safe Zones” will be enforcing all traffic laws but will pay close attention to red light, stop sign, speeding and other moving violations.
The “Safe Zones” we would like our motoring public to be aware of for next week are the 100 Blk to the 900 Blk E Yukon, 2400 Blk to the 2700 Blk E 8th, and the 1700 Blk to the 2200blks of E. 52nd.
The Traffic Units will also concentrate on all School Zones including cell phone use in school zones, Crosswalks, and School Buses while loading and unloading children.
Please take note of these “Safe Zones” and remind your family and friends we will be taking enforcement action in these areas next week. By working together and obeying the law, perhaps we can reduce traffic crashes, injuries and most importantly fatalities by making our streets a safer place on which to drive on.
