Monahans - A new apartment complex is on the way to Monahans, however the rent for some of the tenants will be no more than six hundred dollars.
Monahans is packed. Busy streets means more people to town; city officials say new housing couldn't come soon enough.
"We don't have enough housing so anything will help," Morse Haynes, Monahans Economic Development Corporation director said.
The city recently put their support behind a new apartment complex. It's being brought to town by Commonwealth.
It's a tax credit project, meaning a person's rent will be determined by their income compared to the median income for Ward County.
For example, the median income for the county is $40,000, a person making only 30 percent of that will only have to pay about $250 in rent.
"Monahans is the only one that put in for these tax credits," Haynes said. "We need housing in Monahans."
Rent is high just about everywhere; this complex gives people a place to stay without breaking the bank.
"It will actually help some of the people not working in the oilfield to find housing," Haynes said.
As people continue to pour into Monahans, the city will continue to give them a reason to call Monahans home.
All of the units in the complex will be two and three bedrooms, there will also be a community building. Construction is expected to start in January of next year.
