Obamacare Making Ector County Health Department Compete for Clientele 2/10/14
CBS 7 News
Obamacare is forcing local county health departments to compete with health establishments such as hospitals and some doctor’s offices.
People can come to the health department and pay a fee for treatment, even if they don't have insurance. But that could all be changing since many doctors offices now have to cover more, and that's not the only change.
"How it effects us is that we're no longer a provider of the last resort,” says Ector County Health Department Director. “In order to stay competitive, we have to accept a third party insurance to keep clientele."
In order to accept third party insurance, Solla requested malpractice insurance for his department from commissioners in this morning’s meeting. The discussion has been tabled for the moment until commissioners can do more research.
