UPDATE: Video of Theater Shooting is Shown in Court 2/7/14
DADE CITY, Fla. — Prosecutors in Florida have shown in court today a grainy video of last month's fatal shooting of a man inside a movie theater during an argument over texting.
The video was shown at a bail hearing for retired Tampa police officer Curtis Reeves, who is charged with second-degree murder in the killing of Chad Oulson (OOL'-suhn).
Prosecutors also played a recording of the police interview of Reeves after the shooting, in which he said, "If I had it to do over again, it would have never happened."
In the interview, Reeves said Oulson had hit him in the face, possibly with a cell phone, and that he shot in self-defense. But other witnesses, including Reeves' wife, told authorities they never saw Oulson strike Reeves.
But Vivian Reeves did tell police that Oulson stood up and leaned over toward her husband just before the shooting. And the video appears to show some contact between the two men.
Reeves has pleaded not guilty. If convicted, he could face a mandatory minimum sentence of 25 years in prison.
