Snow In Big Spring Causes Slippery Roads And Closed Schools 2/6/14
February 6th, 2014
Big Spring, Tx
The freezing temperatures brought snowfall to Big Spring today.
The city received about two inches of snow and it continued to flurry into the afternoon.
A blanket of white covered the town.
"Itís pretty crazy. The roads are kind of dangerous," said one resident.
TXDOT cleared state highways such as FM 700, but many neighborhood roads remained covered.
"People need to be careful," said another resident.
City crews cleared what they called heavily traveled roads this morning.
"They were up at 10 last night got back around 3 AM and then came back at 6," said Johnny Womack, Public Works Director.
The conditions caused Big Spring and Coahoma ISD to close for today. One student we caught up to says heís enjoying the day off.
"Just watching movies, trying to stay warm," he said.
School officials from both Big Spring and Coahoma say road conditions will determine if school reopens tomorrow.
