Former Tennis Star Drops Out of U.S. Delegation 2/5/14
NEW YORK - When the opening ceremony takes place Friday for the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, Billie Jean King won't be there.
The former tennis star was supposed to be in the U.S. delegation -- one of three openly gay athletes who were being sent to Sochi by the U.S. government, which has criticized Russia's new law limiting banning pro-gay "propaganda."
But King now says she won't be able to go, because her 91-year-old mother is in failing health.
Former U.S. hockey player Caitlin Cahow, who'd originally scheduled to take part in the closing ceremony, will take King's place Friday.
