Borderlands Research Institute Relocates Pronghorns to Marfa Area 2/04/14
February 4, 2014
Alpine - The Sul Ross Borderlands Research Institute has recently completed the relocation of 102 pronghorns from the Pampa area to Marfa. The group has teamed up with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department to keep the iconic animal thriving in West Texas.
The Borderlands Research Institute professor Dr. Louis Harveson says the Pronghorns are captured by helicopter using net guns. The animals are then brought to a capture site where the team conducts multiple tests to make sure they are free of disease. They also place a GPS tracking device on the animals to monitor survival and movements.
