Visual Arts for the seeing impaired. That's what a design class at UTPB hopes to achieve by putting together tactile art kits.
Using the 3D printing studio at the Ellen Noel Museum of Art, students are recreating famous works of art so blind people can feel the intricate contours of sculptures and paintings.
Museum Executive Director George Jacob says this program coincides well with the current exhibit Inner Vision: Bronzes by Michael Naranjo.
Naranjo, a New Mexico native, was blinded as a soldier in Vietnam. However, he did not allow blindness to dissuade his dream of becoming an artist and developed his sense of touch into the ‘art of seeing’.
