Attorney: Simmons' Will Left No Money to Politics 1/29/14
DALLAS - An attorney for the wife of recently deceased Texas billionaire Harold Simmons says he made no political or charitable contributions in his will.
Probate Judge Michael Miller on Wednesday did not immediately rule on whether to seal the will, as attorney Ginger Appleberry requested. Appleberry said Simmons' widow, Annette Simmons, would have her safety and privacy put at risk if the public was allowed to view the contents of the will.
She said the public's interest in the will would be limited because Harold Simmons left his money to family, with his wife as executor.
Simmons was an East Texas native who rose from poverty to head a sprawling corporate empire with interests ranging from energy to nuclear waste dumps.
