Rubio: Loss of Trust in Obama Stalled Immigration 1/29/14
January 29, 2014
WASHINGTON — A Republican senator who's a major player on immigration policy says there's no chance now of passing a broad overhaul.
Florida Sen. Marco Rubio — a potential White House contender in 2016 — tells reporters that President Barack Obama is to blame for causing Republicans to lose trust in him.
Rubio cites GOP concerns about whether the president could be trusted to enforce tough security requirements in the Senate's bipartisan immigration bill that Rubio helped write.
Rubio says the administration has lost credibility as a result of how it's handled the 2012 attack against a U.S. outpost in Libya and accusations that the Internal Revenue Service targeted conservative groups.
Rubio says he'll be watching as House Republicans consider a piecemeal approach to immigration.
