Sudden Change in Temperature Reminds West Texans to Heat Properly 1/23/14

The quick drop in temperature makes many West Texans reach for the thermostats. Fire officials say on days like today with the change in temperature, they tend to see an increase in fires because of people trying to keep their homes warm.
Fire Marshal David Hickman says when using a space heater, make sure it's at least three feet from all flammable material and make sure it isn't plugged in for long periods of time. He also says to never use something like a stove to heat your house.
With those experiencing economically trying times, Hickman says there are countless shelters willing to take people in.
If you see a fire starting call 9-1-1 immediately because sometimes when trying to contain a fire, you could be making it worse.
