ECISD Trustees Approve for Purchase of Land Around OHS 01/22/14

Odessa - The Ector County School District took another important step toward improving the two high schools as outlined in the multi-million dollar bond project. Last night trustees approved the purchase of two properties located west of the Odessa High School that will soon serve as new parking spaces.
It's an almost one hundred and thirty million dollar bond that has been approved by ECISD, and one that with help from trustees, continues to make moves towards major construction.
“Now we are at the point where drawings are ready and schemes are done. You can now look on our website and see pictures of what the schools are going to look like and how they’re going to be laid out,” said ECISD Public Information Officer Mike Adkins.
At Tuesday’s board meeting members approved to purchase land just west of the school along 12th street for future parking lots. Something students say is a necessary and a positive move to making their stay at the school a little more enjoyable.
“We need more parking. And the other fact is, is that this parking lot over here is so torn up it needs to be rebuilt,” said OHS Senior Bailey Matthews.
School officials say that planning for parking lots has been difficult over the past few years, so the purchase of the land makes it easier to expand and grow with the population.
“We knew that Odessa High, that where it’s located it’s in the middle of the neighborhood. The school itself has been expanded numerous times through the years and it’s pretty much land locked,” said Adkins.
Multiple floor plans have now been published with what the future ECISD high school campuses will look like. Parking for Permian will also change slightly, the tennis courts will move across the street and parking will surround them.
