Midland Treatment Center Closed, Inmates Released 1/21/14
MIDLAND - The Midland County judicial district and county commissioners have temporarily closed the court's residential treatment center, a state-funded facility which currently holds 34 inmates.
Officials say they closed the facility and released the inmates after an inspection revealed mold in several areas of the building.
Judge George Gilles tells CBS7 that the inmates are "low-risk", most, serving drug possession charges. All of the inmates will be tracked via ankle bracelets by a third-party company, which will notify parole officers and law enforcement if necessary.
For now, county commissioners say they will continue to meet and discuss current options and evaluate the state of the building. County Judge Mike Bradford believes repairs will take around six months.
