The TEA finished their on site investigation into the Big Spring Independent School District today. The TEA says they want to see improvement. The TEA visited every campus to monitor various programs. They will then submit an report with recommendations in the coming weeks, which the district must follow.
District officials say they know Big Spring has underperformed recently and they have implemented new programs to increase success.
"We will look at our findings and that will be tabulated and condensed into an on site report," siad DeEtta Culbertson of the TEA.
Many parents CBS 7 spoke to hope this report improves the failing schools.
"She's probably going to stay the whole school here in Big Spring you know, probably through the 12th grade,"one parent said about his daughter. "So I'm hoping she gets a better education."
However, if the district doesn't meet the new requirements or continues to decline they will hear from the TEA again. One option down the road is reconstitution of staff. Which means administrators and teachers could be moved to different campuses or fired all together.
That makes another parent of a Goliad Elementary Student nervous.
"As far as the teachers, I love my kids teachers so I couldn't imagine them leaving or going somewhere else," she said.
TEA officials say reconstitution would happen three or four years from now if the district continues to decline. They say other districts they have monitored improved after their visits, which is the end goal in Big Spring.
