The ObamaCare website has caused headaches for many Americans since the rollout last year. Now, the launch of the Spanish version, CuidadoDeSalud.gov, is causing another set of issues for Spanish-speakers looking to sign up for health insurance.
CuidadDeSalud.gov is littered with grammatical errors and critics say the translations must have been computer-generated.
CBS 7 News tested that theory out. We lifted text from HealthCare.gov and put it through a computer-generated translator. The result bore a striking resemblance to the Spanish website’s text.
Health and Human Services regarding the launch of CuidadoDeSalud.gov: “We launched consumer-friendly Spanish online enrollment tools on CuidadoDeSalud.gov in December which represents one more way for Latinos to enroll in Marketplace plans. Since the soft-launch, we continue to work closely with key stakeholders to get feedback in order to improve the experience for those consumers that use the website.
“We’ve learned a lot over the weeks since the soft launch and are working to make sure that CuidadoDeSalud.gov benefits from the hardware and software fixes that Healthcare.gov is going through and ensure that the online enrollment tools are consumer-friendly. It’s important to remember that the Affordable Care Act is more than just a website, and that people are enrolling now.”
