Grady ISD is one step closer to making a decision on calling for a bond for the May election.
The school board met last night to discuss options for the proposed bond which could be in the 34 to 36 million dollar range.
According to Superintendent Leonardo Gonzales, the board is looking at two options: build a completely new K-12 campus on the existing site while keeping the athletics gymnasium or build a new school on another plot and also purchase land from a neighboring owner.
Gonzales says that the original K-8 building was constructed in 1951 and since then there have been 11 different additions to the school. Upgrading the facilities would allow the district to implement new technology and security measures.
The school board is excited about the possibility however, Gonzales says there have been mixed reviews from voters. The reason being: the district is still on 8 million dollar debt service from the last bond in 2007.
The board will have cald meeting next Monday, Jan. 20, at 1 p.m. to continue discussing the proposed bond. That meeting is open to the public.
The district must call to order of election by Feb. 28 to appear on the May ballot.
