2 Killed, 4 Hurt in Orange County Residential Fire 2/8/14
SANTA ANA, Calif. - Southern California authorities say two people have been killed and four others injured in an early morning fire at a group home for developmentally disabled adult women.
Orange County Fire Authority spokesman Steve Concialdi says the blaze broke out at about 5:45 a.m. Wednesday in a residential neighborhood of Santa Ana.
Concialdi says the home's caretaker, a 71-year-old woman, was critically injured while attempting to rescue residents from the single-story, four-bedroom home.
Three other people were hospitalized with serious injuries - possibly smoke inhalation.
Arriving firefighters found the house and its garage consumed in flames. The fire was knocked down in a half hour.
The victims were between 30 and 60 years old.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Concialdi says the home was completely destroyed.
