Another Travel Trailer in West Odessa Stolen 1/7/14
CBS 7 News
Travel trailers are an economical way to live for some, but there is a downside that people here in West Texas have been discovering lately. They can be easily stolen.
The latest couple to have their home taken in West Odessa is Sherri and Shawn. The couple says their travel trailer was parked on Palomino Ave. in West Odessa, and when they came back from the store, it was nowhere in sight. Shawn and Sherri were both in the car on December 30th when Sherri noticed something different.
"I wasn't paying attention while she was driving and she was like...our house is gone our trailer is gone…" says Shawn.
"It was about a week ago when I saw it was gone," says one neighbor we spoke to today.
With no money, no personal belongings, and no home, the couple has help from a local church and is staying in a motel. Sherri says she even went to a Stripes to ask for money.
Sgt. Gary Duesler with the Ector County Sheriff's Office says this is a legitimate investigation, as are all of their reported calls until proven otherwise. He says trailers are difficult to find because unlike a vehicle, they aren’t as easy to tell apart. He also says there are hundreds in the area and the investigation is ongoing.
Sherri says they’re happy to be living away from the area, especially since another trailer was stolen less than a mile away last month.
