ODESSA-Grace Aguilar, with the Ector County Angels, says her group is expanding much faster then she ever imagined it would, and has now partnered with the Street Kings, a local motorcycle club, to help families who are in desperate need.
The groups are starting with a trailer park in West Odessa where a lot of families are living in run-down trailers like the Pardo family.
Aguilar and members of the Street Kings were out dropping off Christmas presents, and other winter items to the Pardo family, after hearing that this family of 5 was living in harsh conditions.
Once the groups stepped into the family's home, they knew right away they needed much more than gifts.
"They might have a home or roof over their heads, but it's not anywhere where everybody else considers home," said Aguilar.
Eduardo Pardo, his wife, and three children, ages 6, 9, and 9 months, all live in a trailer. Holes can be found throughout the trailer, causing it to be colder inside than it is outside, and the plumbing needs to be repaired.
The family has so little space to store food that they've had to use their oven for the extra space.
Brian Walls with Street Kings, says it's one thing to hear about families struggling, and another to see it with your own eyes.
"It made me feel small, knowing that there's still people that do need help, that donít have that assistance, that havenít been granted that ability that we have," said Walls.
Pardo showed us around his home, and says all they have are small portable heaters, that were given to them by both groups, which they keep in two rooms of the trailer to keep the kids warm throughout the night.
Walls and Aguilar say they hope to be an example to others by showing how easy and effective paying it forward really is.
"We canít save the world, but it's a good way to start I think," said Aguilar.
Pardo tells us that he and his wife plan on joining both groups in paying it forward, even if it's in a small way.
