MIDLAND-The Midland Humane Coalition, inside of PetSmart, has a unique adoption program known as Senior-to-Senior.
The program waives all adoption fees for any senior citizen who adopts a senior cat or dog at their adoption center.
Steg Stegall, the adoptions director, says they created the program after realizing how many senior pets were being dropped off at animal control.
"What better home than to find a senior citizen, whose looking for a calm dog that they could just have as a companion, a friend, and the dog as well needs a calm home, so we thought we'll just place the seniors together," said Stegall.
So far, Stegall says they've been able to pair up 100 seniors together, adding that they consider a senior pet to be 5-years-old or older.
