ODESSA-As the New Year begins, Jesus House Odessa is re-launching their Park Ministry in efforts of reaching out to as many homeless people as they can in the area.
Members of Jesus House met at Noel Heritage Plaza for their first Park Ministry of the year.
Volunteers were up early this morning preparing meals, and loading up their Jesus House truck with items to take to the homeless.
Loren Guiter, the Outreach Pastor for Jesus House, says their Park Ministry is aimed to help keep the homeless population fed and warm, especially through the winter.
"We come out, set up a table, the same thing we do with our soup kitchen. We have the food lined up, and we just serve hot food straight to them, and we just love on them," said Guiter.
In their large white truck, Pastor Guiter says they always carry extra winter clothing such as thermals, socks, gloves, and plenty of toiletries, to help the homeless stay clean.
Taurean Shorts is no stranger to Jesus House; he's been living on the streets for nearly 3 years, and credits the ministry for giving him the encouragement and hope to get by.
"It means a lot you know, to a person like myself, you know, whose been in this program for at least 2-3 years. It's a blessing, you know, every weekend you get to eat," said Shorts.
As part of their Park Ministry, they also visit different homeless campsites, to let them know that they're not alone, and to make sure they get a good meal in for the day.
"Sometimes, we actually meet some individuals that are just new to Odessa, so we'll help them out and show them where the Salvation Army is, where we're at, tell them where the Soup Kitchens are in Odessa, and where we can help them out," said Guiter.
Jesus House Odessa is always in need of volunteers and donations, such as thermals and sleeping bags. If you wish to help out you can visit their website at www.jesushouseodessa.com, or call (432) 272-3362.
