SAN ANTONIO (AP) - A San Antonio police officer who was fatally shot last month while chasing two robbery suspects has been laid to rest.
Blue police helicopters thundered in formation over Mission Burial Park on Saturday, during the funeral of 31-year-old Robert Deckard.
San Antonio police Chief William McManus also had dispatch officers announce that Deckard's badge number, 0582, would be retired. Police officers subsequently received the message over department radios.
Deckard was shot in the head Dec. 8 while chasing two convenience store robbery suspects. He died Dec. 20.
Police arrested 28-year-old Jenevieve Ramos and 32-year-old Shawn Ruiz Puente following the shooting. Both are being held on capital murder charges.
