Maple Leafs Win Shootout at the Big House 1/1/14
UNDATED - The NHL's Winter Classic was decided in a shootout today at the University of Michigan football stadium. The Toronto Maple Leafs edged the host Detroit Red Wings edged the 3-2 with Tyler Bozak scoring the deciding goal.
More than 105,000 fans braved the cold weather in Michigan. This is the sixth edition of the NHL's outdoor game, the first taking place in a Buffalo blizzard in 2008. In defeat, the Red Wings raised their sticks to salute the crowd.
This year's game features a pair of Atlantic Division teams, each with 45 points on the season, nine points back of first place Boston.
The second game of the day is tonight in Vancouver as the Canucks entertain the Lightning. Tampa Bay is tied for second in the Atlantic, four points back of the Bruins, while the Canucks have 53 points in the Pacific Division.
