It's been a week since the body of Elizabeth Carrasco was found in an alley in Odessa.
Now the family is struggling to pull the funds together for the funeral. Thanks to the generosity of West Texans, Carrasco's funeral is fully paid for.
The family is grateful that many kind strangers stepped in to help them give lisa carrasco a proper burial.
About two hours after we posted the story to Facebook, the entire funeral bill was covered.
The past week for the Carrasco family has been a nightmare. After learning of Elizabeth or Lisa's death, the family was shocked.
"She didn't have insurance or any money at all and her girls, the oldest one is 18 and they donít have any money," says Lisaís cousin Mariquita Marquez.
This tragedy left four children without a mother.
"The state told us if we didn't come up with the money that the funeral was going to be cancelled."
So the family reached out to the community asking for help in order to give lisa a proper burial. They witnessed an overwhelming response.
"A lot of people started calling here to the funeral home and making donations"
By 4 p.m., strangers had paid for the entire funeral.
Although no official cause of death has been determined, the arrest of a man involved in moving Lisaís body shed light on the possibility that she overdosed on drugs.
"I never imagined her being around people like that," says Marquez.
She had many things to look forward to like being a grandmother. Now her growing family will have to move on with only her memory.
The funeral is scheduled for 1 p.m. tomorrow afternoon at the Acres West Funeral Chapel.
