December 29, 2013
COLLEGE STATION, Texas - With red and blue lights flashing, several
hundred emergency vehicles escorted the body of a Burleson County sheriff's
deputy killed while serving a warrant to a cemetery in his hometown.
More than 1,000 people attended the funeral service Friday at a College
Station church for Sergeant Adam Sowders. The 31-year-old was then laid to rest
in his hometown of Somerville, located about 30 miles southwest of College
The Bryan-College Station Eagle reports Sowders had been with the Burleson
County Sheriff's Office for seven years and one day when he was shot and killed
Dec. 19 while serving a search warrant at a mobile home near Snook.
Sowders' uncle, Carter Stone, said public service was in Sowders' blood, as
he had grown up among firefighters, EMS and police officers.
