Big Spring, Tx
A Salvation Army bell ringer, who has rang her bell and sung Christmas carols in the Post Office for years, was kicked outside last week after an anonymous complaint.
People in the community simply know her as Delores.
She has become a staple at the post office, ringing her bell and greeting people around Christmas time.
"I look forward to it every year," said one man getting his mail.
For over fifteen years, she has collected money inside the post office. Once in 2009, a complaint drove her to the sidewalk. Then again last week, an anonymous complaint has once again put her outside.
"I felt sorry for the Postmaster. Bless his heart; he was so sad about it," Delores Albert said.
"I wish she was allowed back inside and I think every one else does," another customer said.
However, she isnít upset at the person who complained. She tells people to pray for him.
"Heís got something in his life thatís he unhappy about or he wouldnít be so insistent, as heís shown to be this year," she said.
Post Office officials say there are strict rules against solicitation inside. If they broke the rules for one person, they would have to do it for everyone.
"We would have to allow other groups that they would probably really not want in their post office," said Sam Bolen a public information officer for the Post Office in Austin.
Today, the rain forced her to close up early, but she says she enjoys her job rain or shine.
"Itís meeting the people, they are so good here. People are full of love," she said.
