40M Target Customers May Have Been Hacked By Identity Thieves 12/19/13

Target customers should be on the lookout for fraud and identity theft following a data breach that may have affected 40 million credit and debit cards.
The nationwide retailer says customers who used their cards at the store between Nov. 27 and Dec. 15 may have been exposed. The stolen data includes the card number, name, expiration date, and the three-digit security code found on the back of the card.
Investigators believe the information was stolen by hacking into the software installed on the devices customers use to swipe their cards to make a payment.
Target says it is working closely with law enforcement and has hired a forensic firm to investigate the breach.
Customers should check their statements for unusual activity. If someone thinks their information has been stolen they should call their credit card company and let them know that the card was recently used at Target. The cardholder should then replace the card and change the pin.
