WEST TEXAS - After the winter storms knocked out power for West Texans, people are seeing a spike on their electricity statements while their power was out. This glitch was brought to our attention when a viewer posted his electricity statement on our Facebook page showing that he was using electricity during the recent power outage. We looked into the issue and Oncor tells us that during a power outage, meters still have to punch something into the computer during the so-called "no-read situation" therefore they record an estimated usage based on the average usage at the time of the outage. But
Oncor reminds people not to worry, even though you see the reading on your Smart Texas Portal, when your bill comes in the mail, it will drop the "made-up" usage during the outage. If you have any questions about your bill, or if you feel you're being overcharged during an outage, be sure to call your electricity provider to clear up the confusion.
