Case of Texas Foster Girl's Death Reopened 12/15/13
December 15, 2013
AUSTIN, Texas - Texas officials are reopening the investigation into
the death of a 1-year-old girl in foster care after an inspector general decided
the probe was inadequate and didn't address unanswered questions.
The Austin American-Statesman reports that the head of the Health and Human
Services Commission's Office of Inspector General has ordered his staff to
re-examine the death Orion Hamilton in October.
The Cedar Park child Orion died after police say a man at the home crushed
the baby's head between his knee and the floor. In November a state investigator
determined that Child Protective Services hadn't made mistakes.
However, the newspaper has reported two aspects of the case unexplored by
the inspector general's initial investigation. Commission spokeswoman Stephanie
Goodman told the paper the initial review wasn't sufficiently thorough.
