CBS 7 News
December 13, 2013
BARSTOW-Pablo Reyes Jr., a veteran originally from West Texas, suffered a stroke and has been in a coma at a hospital in Hawaii since last Monday, December 2nd.
His parents, Pablo Senior and Cecilia Reyes, who live in Barstow, were unable to fly to Hawaii to make important decisions concerning the health of their son due to financial reasons.
After our story first ran on the Reyes family, the community of West Texas pulled together to help send the parents off to Hawaii.
Reyes’s parents arrived last night to be with their son, and have told us that Pablo Jr. has opened his eyes several times after hearing the voice of his mother. Doctors even had to tell his mother to stop reading to him, because his heart rate was rising.
The Reyes family tells us Pablo Jr. is still not as responsive as doctors would like him to be, but are hoping to have him moved out from ICU and into a regular hospital room to recover.
Pablo Jr. is scheduled to have one more surgery next week.
Stay with CBS 7 as we continue to give updates on his condition.
