MIDLAND-The Texas Education Agency answered CBS 7's questions today regarding the closure of last night's Bilingual/ESL Community Meeting.
TEA invited parents of students in the program to the meeting in an open discussion following the program's accredited-warned status earlier this year.
"The meeting was for parents to discuss any issues, concerns, likes, etc.
about the program at MISD. It was in invitation program only for parents
with children served by the program.
Because parents would be discussing their children's participation in the
program and individual issues, under FERPA (Federal Education Rights and
Privacy Act) the meeting was closed to all except invited participants," said TEA Spokesperson DeEtta Culbertson in an e-mail.
