Odessa - After months of debate, an ordinance that paves the way for red light cameras in Odessa was not voted on.
The decision came after citizens spoke out at the council's last meeting.
The new ordinance that would allow for automatic traffic camera enforcement was left tabled at tonight's meeting.
That means there was no vote and that likely the issue of red light cameras is done, at least for now.
People and even the city council have been divided over the idea of red light cameras at intersections.
This was set to be the second and final vote on the changes, which would have set the city on track to sign a contract with a red light camera company.
According to city spokesperson Andrea Goodson, the council could take up the ordinance for reading again in the future, and it would still just need one final vote to go into affect.
