Sul Ross Hires New Volleyball Coach 12/4/13
Sul Ross University has hired a new volleyball coach.
Dewayne Roberts comes to Alpine from Eastern New Mexico University, where he spent six seasons as an assistant coach. Roberts replaces Marilyn Nolen who spent one year leading the program. She has been re-assigned exclusively to instructional duties, according to Sul Ross.
Roberts initially interviewed for last year's vacancy. He will begin his new duties in January.
“Dewayne impressed university officials during his interview with his coaching philosophy and portfolio,” said Dr. Larry Guerrero, Dean of the College of Professional Studies in a Sul Ross press release. “We are confident that he will be an asset to the Lady Lobo volleyball program and the university as a whole.”
Roberts received both his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Eastern New Mexico. In 2008 he graduated with a Bachelor's of Science in History, and in 2011 he received a Master's of Science in Physical Education.
He has served in other educational capacities as well, such as an instructor in Health and and Physical Education, assisting with recruiting and working as a summer volleyball camp administrator and coach.
“I am very excited to be coming to Sul Ross, and I am anxious to meet the players,” Roberts said via press release. “I look forward to the challenges and opportunities. The American Southwest Conference is a very competitive conference, but I am confident our team will be motivated and ready to move forward.”
