ODESSA-A Facebook photo went viral today in Odessa of a dog allegedly at the Odessa Animal Control shelter with an untreated broken leg since November 20.
Veterinarian at Angel Vet clinic Dr. Schwarz confirmed to CBS 7 today that the dog, thought to be a St. Bernard Mix, is being treated for a broken leg.
"It is an old break and the dog is suffering from leg atrophy, it's been there for awhile," Dr. Andrew Schwarz said.
It is unclear whether the dog was treated while at OAC. The city has not returned e-mails to CBS 7 to confirm whether or how the dog was treated while at the shelter.
According to a photo sent to CBS 7 that shows the dogs' inventory tag at OAC, the dog was taken into custody on November 20th and listed in "good" physical condition with a "back leg injury".
Sources tell CBS 7 the dog's new owner is covering his vet bills in his recovery.
