The body of a 24-year-old Seminole woman was found along the Pecos River early Friday morning. Now CBS 7 has uncovered the missing persons report which was filed for the same woman a little over a week ago.
Early Friday morning a hunter in Eddy County made a horrifying discovery along the shore of the Pecos River.
The body of a woman, identified as Ana Laura Villegas, 24, was bound and nude in the area known as 10 Mile Dam.
Investigators say the initial autopsy suggests Villegas died of asphyxiation.
"Apparently because of the nature of the situation surrounding her discovery, we had to do some extensive testing," says Eddy County Investigator Captain Jeff Zuniga.
Villegas was reported missing by her boyfriend on Nov. 22.
"She was a very nice woman, she was an awesome mom, she was a working girl... I don't know the reason that people could take her life," says boyfriend Rafael Alex Licon.
The case is still being treated as a homicide.
"Eddy County Sheriff's Office as well as the Hobbs Police Department. The FBI is also here this morning and they're reviewing the case to see if they're going to take the case or not to help us out with it," says Gaines County Sheriff Ronny Pipkin.
According to Eddy County investigators, no arrests have been made at this time.
Officials say they are developing leads and interviewing the victim's husband as well as her boyfriend.
Investigators ask that anyone with information about the crime contact the Special Investigation Unit of the Eddy County Sheriff's Office at (575) 887-7551 or Eddy County Crime Stoppers at (575) 887-1888.
