ODESSA, TX-The holidays are meant to be a time of giving and filled with joy, but for some families it's anything but the most wonderful time of the year.
One Odessan took it upon herself to help those families who are less fortunate than most.
Grace Aguilar's group, the Ector County Angels, is hoping to surprise nearly 1,000 homeless children with Christmas presents this year, but what many don't know is that she herself is considered homeless.
Two years ago, Aguilar and her family's home burned down for the second time, both right before Christmas.
Now Aguilar and her family are living in a building owned by a family member.
"I've seen my family struggle, especially my kids, especially the older ones who know they don't have anything," said Aguilar.
Aguilar has never shared her story until now. She says her family was so grateful for the help they received from others when they had nothing, and wanted to pay it forward by helping as many homeless kids in the area.
"I kept praying to god that he could let me win the lottery, so I can take care of all of these kids," said Aguilar.
But it didn't take winning the lotto for Aguilar to help.
She started her group Ector County Angels online one year ago, and receives wish-lists from homeless kids within the Ector County school district.
So far this year, with the help of volunteers, who she calls her "angels," there are 1,000 kids who are in need of presents this Christmas. Aguilar is hoping the community could help out.
"I hope we can get all of these kids taken care of. I just need sponsors and gifts to be able to. Even if its just for this one time of the year, that they can be out of their situation mentally," said Aguilar.
Anything means the world to someone who has nothing says Aguilar.
Her group is asking for new, or used toys, blankets and clothes for these homeless kids.

Aguilar says they will need volunteers to wrap and distribute the gifts at their exclusive Christmas celebration that they will be holding for these homeless kids and their families.
