Odessa - Witnesses of Friday’s fatal car-pedestrian accident tell CBS 7 that the teenager who died, died a hero. Family and friends are now speaking out about how Selena Saiz pushed another pedestrian out of the way to save her life. Many are now calling Selena a hero, but according to family and friends her last act of saving another person showed who Selena was her entire life.
“She always took care of everybody before herself, she always took care of everybody first,” said Selena’s mother Shonda Jacobs.
On Friday, 18-year-old Selena Saiz walked to a convenience store for a snack as she has many times before. As Selena was leaving with her friend they began crossing Andrews Highway when a white SUV approached the girls, Selena pushed her friend out of the way.
“My mom called me back just two minutes later saying Selena is dead and I started crying,” said Selena’s sister Sarah Jacobs.
Now in a time of need, friends and family are coming together to remember the good times they had with Selena.
“She would look for the best in everything, it didn’t matter how bad or down and out it was, she always would look for the good part in everything,” said family friend Jheri McDaniel.
“It’s hard to describe, she was, she had a beautiful soul you know?” said family friend Christopher Garcia.
The family says, the other woman injured during Friday’s accident remains in the hospital, but is conscious and doing well.
“If Selena could say anything to the person that this happened with, she would tell them it’s okay, accidents do happen,” said McDaniel.
The family is in need of funds to help cover the funeral expenses, if you would like to donate visit the link below.
