Good Samaritan Tackles Attempted Burglar 11/14/13

Odessa - A man is caught red-handed trying to rob an Odessa smoke shop, but it wasn’t by police. Through a joint effort Wednesday night customers at Smokers Outlet were able to take down an attempted burglar.
Employee’s say this shop has been robbed a number of times before, but this time was different. One customer just so happened to be in the right place at the right time and did what many residents are calling a heroic act.
“I was so afraid that this man was going to kill somebody here, or even me,” said former Smokers Outlet employee Janet Julius.
Smokers Outlet employees have been on their toes and ready for anything this past year as their stores continue to be robbed. All the excitement began when the store hero, Bryan Faus, was leaving.
“He kind of pushed me back and I stumbled, I was like what’s your deal,” said Faus.
The man then ran around the store to the drive through window where he began to crawl inside and threaten the employees. “That gave me enough time to run up and grab him and shoved him onto the ground and said, you aren’t going anywhere,” said Faus.
The two wrestled for a moment until Faus was able to secure the man in a headlock and wait for police. “I had him tackled right here and then a police officer came up the street here and jumped on his back and handcuffed him.”
Now that everyone is safe, employees refer to Faus as a hero, however he says he was just following his instinct. “It’s just common courtesy, I’m here to help others, I like to help others.”
