MIDLAND, TX-What was suppose to be a happy and memorable event, honoring those who put their lives on the line to defend our country, turned into a horrific scene that would forever change the lives of many families.
Itís been almost a year since a tragic train crash killed four veterans after a freight train slammed into a float carrying the veterans and their spouses during an honorary parade in Midland.
Army Sergeant Joshua Michael was one of the four veterans killed that day, who was a double purple heart recipient.
With the one year anniversary of the Hunt for Heroes parade crash approaching, online business, Project Treasure, is hoping to heal some of the pain from the loss that the Michael family is still trying to deal with, by asking West Texans to write a personal note expressing their sorrow to the family.
Project Treasure is a unique online business hoping to bring comfort for the Michael family during this time of sadness, but the company is asking for one thing, help from the people here in West Texas.
Jessica Weinland, who is close friends with the Michael family, is helping lead this benefit that Project Treasure has started.
"It's a great way for people to get involved and really show this family that they're not forgotten about," said Weinland.
The giving doesn't stop there, for every letter written the company will donate $5-dollars to the family. All you need to do is sign on to their website, click on the top purple banner, where you will be shown how to submit your note to the Michael family.
Once the project wraps up, the company will then send the family a keepsake box full of all the encouraging letters submitted.
"When you go through such a loss like that, you know, you go through such bad days, sometimes it's good to know your hero is not forgotten and that people truly truly care," said Weinland.
The benefit will run until Friday November 15th. Anyone who wishes to take part in this project can visit the companyís website at ProjectTreasure.com.
