CRANE, TX-It's been 4-months since a tragic crash killed three members of the Alvarez family.
Now the community is happy to welcome home the only survivors of the crash, Maritza and Leo Alvarez.
Friends and family are calling Maritza Alvarez a walking miracle.
Just 4-months after a crash killed her mother, father, and sister, and severely injured her, she continues to defy all the odds against her.
A smile isn't what you would expect out of Maritza, especially taking into account what she's been through the past several months, but she’s just the opposite, still full of energy and staying positive.
"When they first saw me, they were like she didn't make it, I was already packed up," said Maritza.
She and her little brother were the only survivors of the crash while their family was on vacation in Mexico.
Maritza broke several bones and damaged her lungs, while her brother was unharmed.
Home is the one place Maritza couldn't wait to return to.
"I just wanted to be back here in Crane where my sister was a twirler, where my parents worked, where they would come home always so happy," said Maritza.
Friends and loved ones don't know how this 15-year old keeps her head up with a smile on her face, she says she credits her brother this.
"I keep moving forward because of him, I love my brother a lot," said Maritza.
Maritza is getting used to the new normal in her life, carrying her mother, father, and sister in heart wherever she goes.
"I keep getting stronger and stronger, because my parents and sister and god are always there with me," said Maritza.
Maritza was told she wouldn't be walking today, but tonight she's on her way to the state marching band competition in San Antonio.
